Biography
Maurice is a licensed psychotherapist who has studied, practiced, and
taught Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan and Shaolin Kung Fu for 32 years, and has
uniquely integrated traditional Chinese exercises with contemporary
mind-body wellness.
He has worked under the tutelage of Master Steven Hou, Master C.K. Chu,
and Master Mantak Chia. He has taught extensively at Cornell University,
Omega Institue and Interface of Boston.
Maurice is a pioneer in the field of integrating ancient Chinese body
wisdom and modern psychotherapy. "From the Chinese medical perspective,
Qi, vital enrgy, is the basis of integrating thinking, emotions and
senses. With enhanced energy reserves, a sense of well being and security
will result; offering to the mind a 'field of greater happiness' (i.e.
the body) to journey within."
Maurice also teaches African drumming and dance. His troupe regularly
performs at the Ithac Festival and Grassroots Festival. "Similar
to Qigong, African dance movements are both cathartic
and energizing. Ancient movement and rhythmic notions are intimately
connected to the human in interaction with surroundings, nature and
others. Additionally, these movements stimulate spine, brain, energy
centers and emotions."
Maurice Haltom co-founded, with Dr. Steven Pannebianco, the Cayuga
Heights Center for Wellness & Healing Arts in Ithaca NY. The
Center, whcih operated until 2008, offering classes and special seminars
in Yoga, Meditation, Qigong, Tai Chi, Kung Fu
